About the Cooling System
A vehicle’s cooling system consists of the radiator, the radiator cap, the connecting hoses, the thermostat and the water pump. The components work together to prevent overheating from the extreme temperatures created in the engine. If any part of the system fails, heat levels rise and may damage the engine head, the head gaskets or ruin the engine. All of the potential disasters are costly repairs. Occasional maintenance ensures the system lasts the life of the car or truck.
Antifreeze levels should be checked periodically to ensure that the coolant protects the vehicle year round. The radiator needs flushing according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Hoses are typically inspected during oil changes. If you notice the engine temperature gauge registering a higher temperature, bring the vehicle to Germain Honda of Dublin to have the cooling system evaluated. Have the necessary maintenance performed before major problems arise.
