From the entry-level Sport trim, to the adventure-ready TrailSport, and the top-end Elite and Black Edition, there’s sure to be a Honda Pilot to match every taste. The nuances between those trim levels can be subtle, however, so we’ve created this handy guide to help decide which is perfect for you.

Honda Pilot Sport

Sport (FWD or AWD)

  • Starting at $42,395 MSRP*
  • Google built-in
  • Power tailgate
  • 20-inch alloy wheels
  • 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster

Though the Sport is the entry-level trim for the Honda Pilot, it serves as a worthy introduction to offerings that are standard throughout the Pilot lineup, all the way through the Black Edition trim. Significantly, that includes the engine, a beefy 3.5-liter, 24-valve DOHC V6 that produces 285 horsepower and 262 LB-FT of torque at 5,000 RPM. It also includes foundational interior features like the 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and the complementary 12.3-inch color touchscreen that boasts wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility and access to HondaLink® Subscription Services, and its suite of security and convenience features. Driver assistance tools like a rearview camera, hill descent control, and electronic brake distribution will help ensure that you reach your destination safely.

Honda Pilot EX-L

EX-L (FWD or AWD)

  • Starting at $44,695 MSRP*
  • Stowable second-row center seat
  • CabinTalk®
  • Leather-trimmed seats
  • Parking sensors

Building on the solid base of the Sport trim, the EX-L includes features like CabinTalk®, an in-car public address system that uses a front microphone to broadcast the driver’s voice to passengers without needing to turn around and shout. CabinTalk® is enhanced by another safety feature, the standard conversation mirror, a convex mirror that allows the driver to see the second and third rows of the vehicle without taking attention away from the road. Wireless phone charging, third-row charging ports, parking sensors, illuminated vanity mirrors, and integrated rear-door sunshades also make their debut as standard features in the EX-L. Dual chrome exhaust finishers and heated power side mirrors provide a touch of luxury to the outside of the vehicle.

Honda Pilot TrailSport

TrailSport (AWD Only)

  • Starting at $50,595 MSRP*
  • All-terrain tires
  • 18-inch TrailSport wheels
  • Off-road-tuned suspension
  • TrailWatch™ camera system

The TrailSport is the first trim level where all-wheel drive becomes standard, appropriate for a vehicle that has been thoroughly optimized for off-road adventures. That includes Trail Torque Logic, a system that is able to detect when one of the vehicle’s wheels has lost contact with the ground and automatically redistribute torque elsewhere. Uniquely among the Honda Pilot family, the TrailSport also has a multiview camera system equipped with TrailWatch™, which provides a 360-degree, real-time look at potential obstacles, underbody skid plates, and a 115-volt power outlet in the second row, allowing you to plug in small electronics and appliances. Though you will hopefully never need it, the TrailSport is also the only Honda Pilot trim level with a full-sized spare tire.

Honda Pilot Touring

Touring (AWD Only)

  • Starting at $51,295 MSRP*
  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Bose® Premium Sound System
  • Multiview camera system
  • Hands-free access power tailgate

Touring cars, as the name implies, are optimized for comfort and style over long trips, and the Honda Pilot Touring is no different. One of its obvious highlights is that it’s the first trim level where a 12-speaker Bose® Premium Sound System, which includes a subwoofer, becomes standard. That benefit integrates perfectly with others, like the multi-zone audio that allows you to control the flow of sound to different areas of the vehicle, HD radio, and the smartphone interface, available wirelessly or through a USB Type C port in the front console. Elsewhere, the Touring trim also adds exciting extras like leather-trimmed seats, illuminated beverage holders, and courtesy door lights in the front row, while the hands-free tailgate with walk-away close makes loading and unloading anything from luggage to groceries a breeze.

Honda Pilot Touring Blackout

Touring Blackout (AWD Only)

  • Starting at $52,495 MSRP*
  • 20-inch black alloy wheels
  • Black Honda badges
  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Bose® Premium Sound System

Using the Touring trim as its starting point, the Honda Pilot Touring Blackout takes things to the next level, with the factory-installed Blackout Package, a black-infused design that is sure to turn heads wherever you go. No detail has been missed in that regard — right down to the black lugnuts that keep the 20-inch black alloy wheels in place. You will also find gloss black emblems all around the vehicle, from the Honda H to the markers for “Pilot,” “Touring,” and “AWD.” Beyond appearances, everything from the Touring trim remains in place for you to enjoy a premium ride, including the panoramic moonroof with tilt and slide functionality and on-demand in-trunk seat storage for some extra space.

Honda Pilot Elite

Elite (AWD Only)

  • Starting at $53,695 MSRP*
  • Head-Up Display
  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated outboard second-row seats

One of the important features of the Honda Pilot Elite is the Head-Up Display, which keeps your eyes on the road by projecting critical driving information onto the windshield. That’s just one of the advanced tools introduced and standard at this trim level, a category that also includes things like auto-dimming side mirrors featuring puddle lights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a heated windshield, ventilated front seats, second-row heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and seven drive modes (Normal, Econ, Sport, Snow, Tow, Trail, and Sand). Essentially, but for some stylistic enhancements found in the Black Edition, the Elite is the top of the Honda Pilot range, with all of the latest that Honda has to offer in terms of technology, safety, and comfort.

Honda Pilot Black Edition

Black Edition (AWD Only)

  • Starting at $55,195 MSRP*
  • 20-inch gloss black alloy wheels
  • Black Edition exterior trim
  • Black Edition interior leather
  • Head-Up display

Much like the Blackout Package adds a level of sophistication and intrigue to the Touring trim, the same can be said for the Black Edition relative to the Elite trim. All of the top-end features introduced with the Elite trim remain in place, like the Head-Up Display and heated windshield. However, here, you’ll ride in style on special Black Edition interior leather trimming the seats, which also include Quilted Ultrasuede® Accents and Contrast Piping. Black Edition exterior trim details line the exterior of the vehicle, while the entire package sits on 20-inch gloss black alloy wheels. Gloss black mirrors and dual gloss black exhaust finishers complete the Black Edition’s aesthetic.
