In today's world, it often seems as though everyone from your boss to your barber is telling you to work harder and work longer. Germain Honda of Dublin thinks it would be wonderful if just once, someone told you to sit back, relax, and take a break. Wouldn't you agree? Well, fortunately for Pinterest users, Honda is doing just that.
Relatively new on the social media scale, the networking site, Pinterest, allows users to share web-based content by "pinning" images (i.e. photos of your favorite new Honda vehicles) and articles to a virtual pin board. Being the tech-forward company it is, Honda has not only become one of the first automakers to hold presence on Pinterest but has launched a creative campaign encouraging users to take a "Pintermission."
Not sure what exactly that means? Allow Germain Honda of Dublin to explain. As part of an innovative social media strategy, Honda has identified top "pinners" and rewarded each with a $500 cash prize. The only catch is that the winners must use the money to take a "Pintermission," a 24-hour break from Pinterest, the social media world, and the demands of daily life in general. During these 24 hours, Honda encourages winners to spend the $500 enjoying or visiting some of the products and places they've pinned about.
This unique social media campaign is just one of the ways in which Honda plans to reach out to Pinterest users and the automaker's fan base in general. Lauren Ebner, Assistant Manager of Social Media at American Honda Motor Co., explains, "We're just dipping our toes in the water here with our first campaign, but it will be a good opportunity to market some of our vehicle launches..."1.
